Summary
Scar is captured and put in an illegal laboratory that experiments on hybrids. When he’s put in a cell, he meets a new friend. But there’s one problem: his new friend is deceased. And he’s out for vengeance on the man who killed him.

The ghost only winced slightly, brushing off his shoulder where it had landed. “I’ll give you some credit, that hurt a lot more than the last guy’s.”
“You— what—?”
With that, the ghost landed on his feet and stepped the few steps to close the gap, hands clasped behind his back as he looked up at Scar, eyes critical as they studied him. There was something almost bird-like in the way he tilted his head, in the way he slowly blinked, in the way he held himself. It was fascinating. “Let me make this a little easier for you— I’m Grian. I’m not where I’m supposed to be, and there’s no getting rid of me. So either leave or get used to it.”

She folded up the note and slipped it into her pocket, already making plans to call Impulse and Skizz over and see what they had to think about it all. Distracted, she went to pick up the pen as well, only to find that a translucent hand was already holding it up for her.
Gem blinked.
Her eyes slowly moved from the pen and the hand holding it, to the arm, and then finally to the face of the person before her.
The ghost blinked back with a small smile on his face.

A distant knock cut the conversation short, and the two exchanged confused glances.
“I didn’t invite anyone,” Mumbo defended himself.
Grian only rolled his eyes, disappearing from the counter to appear a few moments later in the kitchen doorway. “Want me to check it out?”
“No!” Mumbo immediately rushed to the doorway, stopping only when he would have to go through Grian to go any further. “I can check, it’s fine.”
Tilting his head, Grian asked innocently, “Why can’t I? They wouldn’t even see me. It might be someone you don’t want to talk to. If you answer it, they’d know you’re here, but if I did….”
“Yes, well, it could also be someone I do want to talk to, and you would scare them away because of that.”
Grian responded with an exaggerated offended gasp. “I can’t believe you would accuse me of that, Mumbolio.”
Another knock rang out, interrupting the exchange before Mumbo could make a retort. Instead, he sighed. “Please let me through.”

or, Mumbo and Grian, vampire and ghost respectively, live rather solitary lives in a mansion a short distance away from civilization, until someone comes knocking and refuses to be scared away.

Summary
Scar is a professional ghost hunter and is experienced with handling ghosts of all kinds. Except he receives a misleading tip and ends up unprepared when coming face to face with a demon. Thankfully there’s another ghost nearby who doesn’t think he should die.
Grian is too intrigued by the ghost hunter for his own good and decides to haunt him to learn more. He ends up being way more invested than he should have gotten.

“She’s dead Scar.” He hears whispered into his ear. It sounds like Grians voice, but almost to faint to actually know where it’s coming from. He looks at the sky, but only sees blue skies. There’s no one around him. Nothing. Empty.
“You won.” He hears once more, and now he knows for a fact it’s Grian. Only his voice can sound so proud and miserable at once. This time, Scar catches the general area where it's coming from and stares into the distance. He strains his eyes, and swears he catches a glimpse of brown hair, but it's blown away by the wind before he really pins it down. The cold wind from the cave in front of him almost feels like a caress, though he thinks it's more his imagination than anything.
