Summary
Sheriff is a worrier. He worries every time his friend drives like a bat outta hell out in the desert, and around the Butte. He worries about car crashes, and robberies, and infections, and plane malfunctions. Hell, he worries about goddamn snakes and scorpions.
What he’s not really expecting, is a fucking appendicitis.
(OR the one where Sheriff watches over Lightning while Doc is out of commission. Lightning struggles with this new dynamic.)

Summary
"Hey Doc, you might want to come down to the station," Sheriff suggests to him over his clinic's phone.
"There's some suits here asking for you specifically, said they dropped by your house.”
"What do you mean people with suits are looking for me? Why would they need me? You're the Sheriff." Carefully pulling the next looping stitch through the small laceration on the little boy's arm.
"Yeah.. well they have some official looking files with them, so I would hurry up what you're doing and get here before they sniff you out at your clinic.”
Finishing another stitch, he grumbled, "Give me ten minutes and I'll be there, just stall them Mike. You're good at that."
Mater's green eyes lit up as he ripped the ruby red lollipop out of Doc’s hand.
(Or the story where Doc raises Lightning from the very beginning. Some things change, some things will stay the same. Buckle up!)

Summary
Pinching his nose, he asks, “What the hell is this? It smells awful, dude.”
“My special drink, buddy! I made it myself, and it is goo-hoo-ood!”
Taking another whiff, he coughs when the medicinal smell reaches his nose. “Does Doc know you brought outside alcohol to a racing event, man?”
Mater cackles, slapping a hand over his knee. “Hell no, McQueen. Come on, just try a sip, it’s good. You’ll like it.”
(Or the one where Lightning accidentally drinks moonshine for the very first time) (Things don't go very well)

Summary
Doc just couldn't shake this cough. Three months of nearly hacking a lung up and he made the executive decision to break down and see his doctor. Lightning's worried glances only seemed to grow as the days dragged on without a resolution.
He knew eventually it would catch up to him.
You didn't make it to sixty five years old without some sort of health problems causing a fender bender in life.
He should be grateful he hadn't had any issues earlier in his youth, what with the amount of packs he used to smoke from ages 15 to... well now.
Seeing the CT scan results, he kind of wishes he had listened to Smokey when he grumbled at him, "Those things will be the death of you kid."
(Or Doc faces his mortality, has some 'fun' procedures, worries his adopted son, and tries like hell to finally kick the smoking habit)
