Summary
She worked on the methane lines of Proteus, one of Neptune’s moons; and grew up to become an Iron Rat, a methane mechanic that would traverse the deathtrap maze of pipes. Her twin brother joined a corporation army to get off the moon colony and start gathering help for a revolution. Their plan came to a halt when his company was abandoned by their corporation on a hostile planet. With his life insurance payout, Marie abandons her job on Proteus and traverses to the last location on the planet Pandora, eager to find him or his body.
But her first day there is a disaster. Nearly killed by the local wildlife, Marie gets rescued and brought to Hyperion, a corporation that’s heavily invested in Pandora. She enters a contract marriage with the owner of Hyperion, a man known as Handsome Jack, who's hellbent on discovering the mysteries of the Vaults. Jack wants nothing to do with her romantically and forces his closest body double, Timothy, to make public displays of affection with Marie. And things only get more complicated when the bandit gang known as the Crimson Raiders manages to kidnap Marie, the scope of the group’s best sniper set on her.

Jack gets bored while on a business trip to his casino one night, and decides to get it on with that cute guy he just happened to run into. Turns out said guy is called Rhys, and that Rhys is not only one of Jack's data miners at the Handsome Jackpot, but that he also just discovered a heist targeting the casino. And whether he likes it or not, that means Rhys is now in on the hunt for the thief.
Important Note: As much as I love Borderlands 2 and Tales, I hate anything that happened after. So any Borderlands 3 or New Tales lore is nonexistent in this fic, with the exception of the Handsome Jackpot. I love the concept of that place, but hate the canon execution of it. So I grabbed it and twisted it to my liking. Aka, please do not expect any accuracy here, but just roll with it <3

It had been a long time since he’d thought about betraying Jack again. He really thought he was getting better.
But when the moment came—when Angel was right there, trembling, sickly, and afraid—he hadn’t even hesitated. Not really. He told himself that he had, that he’d stood there weighing his options, thinking through all the ways this could go horribly, fatally wrong for him. But deep down, the truth was simpler. He saw her, and the decision had already been made.
The vault hunters hadn’t been kind. He hadn’t expected them to be, not really, but a small, foolish part of him had held on to the idea that maybe—just maybe—they would see what he had done and understand.
