“For God’s sake Luke, you’re like a 24-year-old toddler. Take the aisle and shut up.” Alex groaned, snapping his head towards his friends. “You can’t swap with me, you can’t swap with Willie, I'm not moving and you most certainly cannot sit next to this poor girl.”

So, Reggie's stuck in the washing machine.
It takes Alex a moment to process. No, he’s not phased through the washing machine; he’s literally inside of it, standing waist-deep in household appliance. Reggie’s got his arms braced on both sides of the machine, as though balance is precarious. When he tries to squirm, his knee hits the inside of the machine with a heavy metallic clank, and he winces.
Alex plants his hands on his hips and stares them both down.
Reggie breaks first. “Okay, it wasn’t my fault!”
“What? Dude!” Luke rounds on him, betrayed. Alex fights the urge to scream.

That doesn’t make it any less alarming when the boys suddenly bounce off of something they should be able to walk through — and it happens more and more often now, as the rules for ghosting continue to blur. There’s no rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes, they’re able to pass through things with ease; sometimes, they live to regret trying.
Julie is just doing her homework at the dining room table when she hears a sudden thud against the front door, like a bird hitting a window. She freezes, pen hovering above her geometry equations. Outside the door, rustling, muttering, a strangled “oww, my nose!” — and then, a very polite ring of the doorbell
“It’s open!” Julie chimes.
At least the boys are finally learning to knock.
