But she didn’t even have the inclination to feel the discomfort of it—not when this Elliott Witt seemed to be experiencing all seven stages of grief as he gaped at her.
What, exactly, had she gotten herself into?
“Elliott…” She didn’t know why she said his name back. He’d used hers, though, and perhaps on some level it felt right, but not when followed with, “Do we know each other?”

Vash could easily reach out and touch him, mould himself to Wolfwood’s back, take him in an embrace… and Wolfwood would allow it, because Vash knows, would have to be stupid not to know, how Wolfwood feels about him. How what Wolfwood feels about him is almost identical to what Vash feels about Wolfwood—how the things that he wants and the things that Wolfwood wants are so similar there’s almost no point in trying to distinguish between the two fantasies. They just… blend together.
But instead Vash touches the rosary that still rests against his own heart—the one he took off Wolfwood’s body back when he buried it—and breathes through the knot in his chest. He closes his eyes. It’s weighed on his mind for a lot longer than he’s ever known or had Wolfwood, and he’s not sure what brings him to speak about it now… Vash has never gotten anything out of confessing to the dark.
Still, he whispers, “I’m worried that there’s something wrong with me.”
