Summary
“Han Joowon is useless, just like his mother. He's incapable of taking someone's hand, even if it was offered to him.”
“Your face reminds me of your father.”
Growing up, Joowon was terribly scared of making friends. Scared that if people got too close, they'd eventually find out. What, he did not know. All the helplessness and dependency of a child with the cynicism and despair of an adult swirled in a toxic cocktail as it accompanied him through his formative years. So when all is said and done, a month after meeting Lee Dongsik at the reunion for Nam Sangbae's death anniversary, Han Joowon takes a temporary transfer to Damyang County in JeollaNam-Do in hopes that his absence would act as compensation for the pain he has brought to Manyang.
Lee Dongsik finds out about the little retreat three weeks in. He is not pleased.

There’s red on the carpet. Joowon isn’t sure if it’s wine or blood.
It might be both.
Startlingly, Joowon finds he’s more upset about the broken wine bottle than the dead body. He thinks it might be that his brain doesn’t quite register the gravity of the situation. The other part of him thinks that maybe, just maybe, he isn’t upset that Han Kihwan is dead.

When Han Joowon is 26 years old, he kills his father. It changes everything, but he still finds his way to Manyang and Lee Dongsik.

Summary
Inspector Han Ju Won spent around a year engrossed in work, trying to do something for the community, to lighten his own burden of guilt so that he wouldn’t drown. He felt he had attained some balance, or rather the lack of it, from constantly putting himself to work. He was satisfied, or he thought he was, till a certain someone returned. Now his world was crashing down. Or was it floating up? He was pretty confused.
Lee Dong Sik returned on probation feeling all monk-like. But at the sight of that constantly overthinking young man with hyperintense emotions, which he was horrible at hiding, he no longer felt very detached from worldly desires. However, Lee Dong Sik is definitely unable to be normal about stuff, especially about his feelings.
A mug of fluff, a tablespoon of angst and as of yet undetermined level of cheesiness.

Summary
Almost every night, Han Juwon is plagued by nightmares.
It’s not the same dream every time, but it’s similar. In all of them, he’s the reason why everyone he loves is dead. He doesn’t see what happened, but he knows he's the reason for it all. And this time, Lee Dongsik is lying on the floor, bleeding out and looking at him with something like disgust, blood-stained lips forming soundless words that tell him this is all his fault.
This time, before he wakes up, he looks down at his hands and he’s holding the gun.
Han Juwon does something he can't take back, and he begins to spiral over it.

Summary
Lee Dong Sik is a high school senior at Gyeonggi High in Seoul’s Gangnam district. Known throughout the school as a troublemaker, he’s equally infamous for the rumors that haunt him — the tragic story of his younger sister, Lee Yu Yeon, who was killed in a hit-and-run at the end of 2022. A case that, to this day, remains unsolved and buried by the media.
On the other side is Han Joo Won, eighteen, recently transferred to Gyeonggi after spending his entire adolescence in England, studying at Eton since he was eight. Now back in Korea, he struggles to navigate the cold, power-driven expectations of his father — the nation’s Deputy Commissioner.
Coincidentally, the same man who closed the investigation into Yu Yeon’s death.
Both top students in their year, Dong Sik and Joo Won begin to foster an intense, irrational hatred for each other. But what starts as animosity rooted in pride, resentment, and deep-seated envy soon begins to twist, bringing them closer in ways neither expected.

“My name is Han Joo wo– “Juwon starts to say.“Ah,” Dong Sik interrupts abruptly.
Lee Dongsik is smiling as though embarrassed to have forgotten Juwon’s face. His eyes however are teasing.
“Han Juwon-ssi. My mistake,” he says bowing humbly. “Forgive me for saying, you must take after your mother Han Juwon-ssi. She must be very proud.”
“I wouldn’t know,” Juwon responds evenly. “She’s been gone a long time.”
“I see,” he rumbles deeply into the phone. “Han juwon-ssi is now an orphan.”

Summary
They were arguing about something.
He's sure they were.
They were arguing about something, but Juwon can't put his finger on whatever it was. Largely because his fingers are otherwise occupied tangling themselves into Dongsik's hair as he tries to pull him somehow even closer, like he can kiss the man close enough to fuse their bodies.
Dongsik isn't helping matters, what with the way his arms have banded around Juwon's waist, and he's not sure which of them is leading but eventually Dongsik's back hits a wall and there's an audible sigh of relief as he tightens his hold on Juwon, hand creeping up his spine to nudge him yet closer.
They were arguing about something, Juwon remembers.
Han Juwon and Lee Dongsik are in love with each other, this much is obvious. But who realises first? (ft. everybody's POV)

"How far is he willing to go for me?"
Dong Sik spent 21 years in solitude — and he’s the one to blame for it.
After the incident with Yu Yeon 21 years ago, he shut himself off from the world, it was too much to watch everyone he loved meet cruel fates.

The voices that have tormented him for 21 years quiet down when he sees Han Joo Won kneeling before him, pledging his loyalty.
"I’ll be the monster."
With that, the desire to be loved blooms in his chest once more.

Summary
There were many monsters native to Korea—a plethora of ghosts and demons, an occasional low-level deity or beast—but nothing was as dangerous or alluring as the Gumiho.
