Regulus Black has learned that survival depends on obedience. That absence is peace. That his hunger means nothing. In fact that he cannot be hungry at all. He was raised to hate himself. Hate what he desires. To look at it with disgust, then destroy it. He has carved this into his skull.
He hides within his mind. Never opens. And when he is gone, even before, no one notices. To be remembered is to be known. To be known is to be hurt.
A canon-compliant first-person deconstruction and reconstruction of Regulus from within his own mind, framed in between the lines of Charles Bukowski’s poem “Let it enfold you” (the poem Timothee Chalamet reads in Beautiful Boy). A fragmented nonlinear character study told in vignettes, dreams, and memories. Rooted in poetry.
The cost of repression. A hunger for joy. Wings that cannot carry his weight. Distant light that burns his eyes. An ache for more than he is even allowed even see.

Watching Saxon and Lochy together has always been strange for Piper. Ever since she can remember. Even when Lochy was just a baby, though it was a different kind of strange back then. Strange in a sense that Saxon had far too much responsibility for a kid his age.
He was only ten when Lochy was born. Piper was four and she doesn't remember Lochy as an infant. Not really, but she does have memories of him being a toddler. Somewhere around two.
She remembers seeing Saxon rush to Lochy's playpen first thing after he got home from school, every single day. He’d have been twelve. Twelve years old and practically a parent.
He was making bottles and changing diapers, and oddly enough, never seemed bothered by it. He was walking around the house with little Lochy on his hip like it was nothing. Sitting on the floor to do his homework, so he could let Lochy run around the living room freely and watch cartoons.
