Summary
She runs single-mindedly, absent of any emotion. Every minute eats away at her. The fear that she’s carried her whole life, that’s kept her safe, has abandoned her at its pinnacle. Some of the smaller animals she hunts reach a moment when they realize the level of danger they’re in and freeze, collapsing to the ground as though already dead. Maybe her fear has done this, too.
At the edge of her world, she finally stops. The unnatural wind rips through her fur, the only sound on the landscape despite the earlier crack of thunder. Still, there are no clouds in the sky. To continue onward goes against every one of her carefully-honed instincts. The signs of danger are everywhere. Unfortunately, her common sense was left with Geoffrey. There’s nothing to hold her back anymore. She surges forward, past the threshold.

The 5th Quarter Quell served as a reminder that children and adults worked together to organize the Second Rebellion, but even the strongest of the Districts failed in taking down the power of the Capitol. Thus, the announcement was made that the twist to this year's Games began with a tribute count of 52, as opposed to the usual 26 from the 13 Districts. Instead of a normal reaping, however, representatives of the Capitol will identify the 20 most-powerful individuals from each district- 10 youths aged 12-18 and 10 adults aged 19 or older. From each of those reaping pools, 2 tributes will be reaped. Thus, the 52 tributes that will compete in the 125th Hunger Games were composed of 2 adults and 2 youths from each District, all identified as one of the most powerful individuals of this District.

Summary
Unsettled, Lila shuffles closer to her mom. Mom isn't really talking to anyone else right now either, instead standing still and removed from the rest of the cluster now that they've mostly finished eating, watching. She hides her face into the fur behind Mom's shoulder and presses in, trying to make the pressure push back all of the anxiety crawling under her skin like little mites. Mom stays still under the weight of Lila shoving against her, readjusts only enough to curl around her a little more, and Lila feels it when Mom turns to scent carefully at the top of Lila's head.
"Lila," Mom says, soft against her ear. "You alright, sweetie?"

He is a corpse, and Tula knows she is as well. She does not know why he is not able to raise himself up off the dirt as she does.
