Summary
Draco Malfoy is joining his classmates back at Hogwarts for a Ministry-Mandated 8th year post-war. The 8th years, in the spirit of inner house unity, have been removed from their houses, and placed into a combined house and dorm with the other 8th year students forced to return. Hating his predicament, his father, and his own reflection, he is forced to confront his wrong-doings while working to figure out who he is. He enjoys the shadows he's created for himself over the past two years, and doesn't have any intentions of letting them go.
Hermione Granger never came back from the war, not really. Everyone finds out quickly that she's stuck in her head, fighting her trauma, the pain of her scars the war inflicted, and the weight of her status as "Golden Girl." Hermione is a reckless mess in the dark, and afraid of being inspected too closely in the light.
When Draco and Hermione are paired together for the 8th year practicum, no one knows what to think, other than shit is about to hit the fan. Will they help each other heal, or prolong the hurt? -

Hazel Potter had many gripes, living for one, her relation to the Dursleys, the Dursleys being alive, her lack of bedroom (in that order). She thought she had finalized the list but she had a new addition: the fact that she (unwillingly!) became Ronald Bilius Weasley’s quest sidekick.
Ronald Bilius Weasley was on a mission most days. Wicked doesn’t sleep and neither does he when he’s casing scenes, unfolding plots, unveiling evil twins. He’s a future auror, each closed investigation is proof he’s saving lives! He can’t predict when a case reaches its zenith of action and if Hazel just so happens to be brought along for the ride…uh that can’t be predicted either. (Well maybe she ends up conducting the cart but it’s not his fault! Lives are saved!).
Draco Malfoy has decided to take up the mantle of being this generation's serial killer. He seriously cannot believe no one has tried to put his father down. It’s barbaric that he has to live with daily blood purity tirades. If no one else is up for what must be the most important assassination of the century (well he supposes Hazel might be runner up) he’ll assign himself to the task and assign Hazel as research assistant.
