Summary
The Felt just opened their lasted front in their brand new terf, called the "English Pocket Cafe". However, it turns out that this is new terf to them and there is an already established crew running the shop across the street. Orders come down from above and Crowbar is sent out to gather information to bring the other group down. Little did The Felt realize that The Midnight Crew wouldn't go down without a fight, and maybe in it all some people get feelings for some other people.

Opportunities come as quick as they go. For every door that closes, though, another one opens, and there's very seldom anything good behind them. The job opportunities aren't what make the city worth living in. Those are the doors that are bound to open to you.

Matchsticks took an egg, a single, farm fresh egg, brown shell, and examined it closely for imperfections. Any cracks, he was told, would ruin the experience, and so he set his first choice back in the carton for tomorrow's breakfast, likely some sort of ham and cheese scramble. Maybe with peppers and onions if he was feeling saucy, as he tended to feel these days - life was too short to not indulge a little in your morning scramble, after all. But, no, he was told, by a trustworthy source, that microwaving an egg (whole, raw, shell intact) would produce miraculous results that would revolutionize his morning mealtime. As the sort of person who enjoyed a good scramble but not so much the effort involved in making it, Matchsticks would've accepted any opportunity to revolutionize his morning scramble. He took the words to heart and in, perhaps too much, good faith.

Problem Sleuth is up to his eyeballs in missing persons, Ace Dick is up to his eyeballs in the hijinks of the increasingly powerful Midnight Crew, and Pickle Inspector is up to his eyeballs in a teleporting mansion outside of town. Poorly constructed metaphor aside, everyone's eyeballs are pretty tired. But there's no rest for the weary, as once the missing persons start to correlate with the mansion's peculiar residents, the city's underbelly only becomes more convoluted.

Matchsticks is furious with himself. He’s also angry with Itchy, but if he’s really honest, he’s the most angry with himself for all of this. None of this would be happening if he hadn’t ended up head over heels for Quarters. And none of this would be happening if he’d paid more attention when Doze let it slip that Itchy was showing an interest in photography. He hadn’t paid any attention to that little tidbit at all, assuming Itchy was probably just planning on making porn for himself.
That wasn’t entirely untrue. He did make porn. It’s just unfortunate that apparently it featured Quarters and Matchsticks, taken through a crack in their hotel room window.

Summary
There were half a dozen cheap motels scattered around the perimeter of Midnight City, aimed primarily at travellers and new arrivals to the city. They were shabby, unkempt and most importantly, cheap. They also had the unintentional benefit of being private places where nobody met each other's eyes and no community popped up. People didn't learn anybody's name and nobody ever came knocking to see if you wanted to go to fucking brunch together.
That made them the ideal location for an illicit romantic rendezvous.
