There’s something almost magical about what the snow and festive spirit does to Naruto. The small puffs of vapor that come out alongside the laugh as he realizes the snow actually stuck and the way the warm glow of streetlights bounce off his bright blue eyes makes something twist in Sasuke’s stomach. This small, unnamed secret that he holds so close as not to ruin their hard-won friendship makes the snow almost worth it. Especially when, knowing that Sasuke runs cold, Naruto takes his hand at the bus stop on the way to class – totally platonic, thanks so much Kiba – and offers him a sip of the overly sweet drink in his other. It’s hard to continue keeping that secret, hard not to blurt out his feelings when the sun sinks below the horizon and they’re still sitting on the sofa in Iruka’s living room watching Charlie Brown miss the football for the thousandth time.
