Summary

There are a lot of scumbags in this world, but none are as bad as Lu Shoi Ming. At least that's what anyone living in the West would tell you.
Lu Shoi Ming was living a pretty uneventful life in the renowned White-Tiger Sect. He knew he wasn't the most liked, for good reasons to be honest, but he still managed his life the best he could. Now if others could stop comparing him to his perfect brother that would be great, but alas if there was one thing Lu Shoi Ming couldn't escape it was his brother,s shadow. Despite this, Lu Shoi Ming's life was still quite peaceful. He surely didn't expect to lose everything in one single day.
Now he was on the run for a poisoning he didn't do, his reputation was an utter mess that somehow kept getting worse and worse, and he was forced to travel with someone probably more hated than he was.
How wonderful... Life really has a way to surpise you when you don't expect it.
AKA two assholes are forced to travel together by circumstances and they fall in love.

Inspired by the BBC TV series 'Sherlock' and the exquisite ‘for all that bitter delights will sour’ by fanfic author Darcy Lindbergh.
This is a partial retelling of her story, branching off halfway at a moment when another path might have been taken. I've tried to write it in a manner that stands alone but avoids excessive repetition.
The referenced/implied SA and domestic violence does not refer to John and Sherlock's relationship, although theirs at the start has been (unintentionally) mildly emotionally abusive and involved imperfect consent. They're both very much good ones and soft boys at heart!
This contains brief mention of Mary as a villain, and no Watson baby, as per Lindbergh's original.
My story does include a lot of upsetting ideas, so please heed the tags. Feel free to message me on Tumblr or Twitter if you'd like more info.

Constructive criticism is welcome, especially regarding the writing of dialogue. However, this is my first proper fanfic and first published fiction so please be gentle with me! ;-)

I've written most of the fic already, but to space it out I'll post a chapter every few days.
A little disclaimer: I am 100% confident that Byler will happen in Season 5, so this fic won't end up being canon-compliant. Also, I heard that Season 5 starts in fall of 1987 because of the time jump?? But I didn’t know that when I started writing this, so for the purposes of this fic, the events of Season 5 take place in late 1986/early 1987.
If it helps anyone visualize, I picture Mike and Will’s appearances (hair, clothes, etc) in this fic as being basically the same as how they look in the Season 5 teaser/bts photos.

Coincidentally, albeit for his own reasons, Mickey offers exactly the type of job she has in mind.
TLDR: Queen works at FOMO in the same office as X's day job. Her fixation on becoming X made little room for what can be considered a normal life, as she held no regard for a reality foreign to her goals of redefining the system. While she learns about the people around her, this mysterious colleague helps her discover her own future and aspirations outside of chasing a title. With it, the unfortunate duality of change and sacrifice.
