Summary
Steve battles with the symptoms that come from getting multiple concussions that weren’t treated, all while dealing with his neglectful parents. Life hasn’t been easy, and he thought going to college would be the fresh start he needed. College is much harder than expected, and Steve is drowning in their responsibilities. The expectations put upon them by their parents weigh heavily on their shoulders. They struggle to find the motivation to continue this life full of commitments and guilt until Steve meets a strange boy in one of his classes who acts like a confused puppy. How could this Eddie person not know anything? Steve is willing to help him, seeing as everyone else avoids Eddie.

He knew Charlie didn’t need a babysitter, he could take care of himself, but Nick loved Charlie so much and sometimes just thinking about him out there, alone, was enough to strike fear into Nick’s poor heart. He was getting better about it, though. So, when Charlie received a rough tackle on the pitch, Nick let it go. Everyone else was convinced he was fine, Nick should have been, too.
But Charlie’s behaviour the next day was starting to raise some flags. Nick didn’t know what it was, but he was a worrier by nature. He was probably just overreacting. Now, he just wished that he’d done something about it sooner. Maybe then, they wouldn't be here.

“Jaskier,” A voice in the darkness, deep and growly, from a direction Jaskier could not determine. His name, oh yes, that was his name, wasn’t it? Silly little thing, a name, so silly, he almost laughs at the thought.
He’s faintly aware of someone’s hand brushing his hair and then, oh, lifting his head from the ground, oh so gently. He does laugh at that- some unseen giant has just plucked his head from where it lay, and perhaps would pop in their monstrous maw like a grape- it was an image so ridiculous and yet so real he could almost see it materialing in front of his face. “Don’t eat me, good sir, no matter how funny it may seem,” He tries to say, but the words fall out of his mouth in a garbled mess of sounds that is almost just as hysterically funny as the image of the giant eating his head like a grape.
