Summary
He felt like background noise. That’s what he kept coming back to. Always there. Always steady but easy to forget.
He was the hum of the fan in the room. The soft static people put on when they were trying to sleep. The thing you didn’t need, not really, but you got used to it. Found it comforting in a way you couldn’t quite explain.
Edmundo Diaz: white noise.
Comforting, reliable, forgettable.---
OR: Eddie’s always felt like background noise, but after Buck does something for him, he starts to realize maybe he’s meant for more - and maybe that “more” has been Buck all along. (set after 8x09 "Sob Stories") -

Summary
"Gave 'em my notice this morning. And now you don't need to worry."
He really did that for me...
After all that huffing and puffing, sabotaging every potential subletter and acting weirdly passive aggressive for days, Buck is going to be the one who's taking over his lease. It was the last step– the final obstacle Eddie had to overcome before finalizing his leave.
It should be a relief, a huge weight off his shoulders, but it just feels… sticky. Like the residue left on your skin from a ripped band aid. No matter how hard he tries, Eddie can't scrub away the feeling.

Summary
Eddie’s in El Paso longing and lonely, desperate for reconnection and renewed purpose. Then Buck connects a Puppy Cam to the WiFi network at 4995 South Bedford Street and Eddie, as primary account holder, gets a ping on his phone. And maybe he starts obsessively watching Buck in his home. Just a little.
Or: Unhinged (gay) Eddie + spycam + #LetBuckFuck era with a bit of Eddie having sex in the club (while dropping E) and the confrontation with his parents and moving back to LA resolution pre-Bobby death that we all deserved.
But, really, it's an Eddie Character Study (with porn). Also Eddie gets a cat. ᓚᘏᗢ

Summary
“I never asked for that,” he said suddenly, making Eddie move and turn his face toward him.
Buck gathered the courage to turn too. Eddie’s eyes were even darker in the dim light of the room. An invisible question in his expression.
“I didn’t ask you to choose between me and Chris,” Buck explained. -

Summary
“Just spit it out, Buck,” Eddie said, sighing. “It can’t be worse than everything you’ve already done.”
“Mmm, I don’t like the sound of that,” Tommy said, eyebrow raised. “Your tone or what happened with Evan while I was gone."
He tried not to sigh at the guilty looks both of his boyfriends wore. He’d picked up enough talking to Evan and texting with Eddie to know that they’d been struggling with the impending separation, and yet he had still underestimated how much the two of them had spiraled without him there.
-----
Let's say Buck, Eddie, and Tommy decided, "Why choose?," started a triad, and made it a domestic discipline relationship while they were at it. Because everyone wins.Series

Summary
Curling in on himself, Buck coughs in earnest, hacking violently enough that he tastes bits of copper on his tongue. Eyes watering, struggling to breathe, Buck shifts to his hands and knees. The vials roll away, leaving him with a free hand to pound against his sternum. The sensation of something crawling up his neck, choking him, has panic setting in until it’s finally free. Something plops onto the floor with an unsettling wetness.
Looking down, he sees a full grown string of honeysuckle, roots and all, tainted with splatters of blood in the silvery moonlight. Its nectar still lingers on his lips, sugary, delicate, ominous. The message is clear. Buck leans his forehead on the floor, and screams.
Even knowing this love would eventually kill him, for Eddie, he’ll let it.

Eddie has his “Oh” moment—but he still goes to Texas, hoping distance will make things clearer. Buck, left behind, spirals into Buck 4.0: all charm and distraction, none of it filling the space Eddie left behind.

Summary
His breaths are beginning to slow down, and the moments between closing and opening his eyes again are becoming longer and longer.
The medic in him knows the importance of staying awake, but truthfully he knows he’s not going to make it out of this, so what’s the point.
What was that thing Buck said to him before? It’s like the universe is screaming at you and you refuse to listen?
Is this the universe’s way of screaming at him? He messed things up so badly with his own son and in his damn impulsive resolve to rush in and fix things with Chris, of fucking course he’s going to mess that up too.
....
Or, a Buddie NDE fic; A tree falls on Eddie's car on his drive to El Paso to get Chris, and Buck takes a (literal) bullet for Eddie when Charlie's mom (4x14) comes back for revenge, feat Coma Eddie and the will that needs to get brought up again. Set post Maddie-kidnapping, around the time of U-haul hug.

Summary
Eddie leaving wasn’t some sudden, earth-shattering event.
Well, it was earth-shattering for Buck. It was world-tilting, gravity-defying, the kind of shift that left everything off-kilter, as if someone had reached inside his chest and twisted. Like standing in the ocean when the tide drags the sand from beneath his feet, leaving him wobbling, unsteady, bracing for a wave that never comes.
Like standing on the pier, watching the wave looming over and being stuck in place.
(or, buck spends ninety six days missing eddie, and then he spends another twelve gathering up the courage to tell him he loves him)
