Summary
The gang stop by Hopeland Orphanage as they make their way through December. Wolfwood is excited and doesn't expect more than an easy visit. However, the first day he's there, Ms. Melanie asks for his help regarding a new girl who has had a lot of trouble. Wolfwood sees the signs for what they are and understands that she has gone through the same abuse he did. Now with his old feelings of abuse being brought up, Wolfwood has to struggle to work through them.

Nicholas hadn't doubted Brad when he said Vash was tough before they packed up and left — not when he's seen shadows of that resolve firsthand just a handful of hours ago — but the side of Vash he's riding with now is different than the ones from before. He has his head just about as low as the tomas he's riding, focused on the horizon as they make the insane race to JuLai. It's a foreign look in his usually soft blue eyes, but he still manages to carry that stubborn resolve. There's no stopping him from going right into The Eye of Michael's trap.

Then the priest hears rumors of a plant mysteriously fixing itself and Wolfwood starts his hunt.
This fic is purely so I can write Vash and Wolfwood being in love and them struggling with sudden parenthood.

“You’re so much more honest than you need to be,” Vash groans and falls against his bed. “I would’ve ripped that off the second I—actually, I wouldn’t have kept up my end of the bargain at all. I would’ve disappeared. You would’ve never heard from me again.”
Wolfwood smiles, wryly. “Guess it’s a good thing it was me who made the bet, and not you.” Still not trusting himself to sit, he perches delicately against the edge of Vash’s desk, then regrets it at once. Straightening up, Wolfwood gives another useless tug at the lower hem of his skirt. Vash clearly notices the motion, because he sits up in turn, brow furrowed, but he gracefully chooses not to comment.
“I’m just kidding,” Vash admits, and crosses his legs at the ankles. “I probably wouldn’t mind wearing a maid dress.”
“‘Course you wouldn’t,” Wolfwood huffs. “It’d suit someone like you a whole lot more than it would me.”
Vash’s mouth opens, then closes. That furrow in his brow deepens. “Woah, okay, wow. What the heck do you mean by that?”

Wolfwood loses a bet with Midvalley. It drags up some feelings that Vash is quick to help resolve, albeit not as an entirely neutral party.
