Summary
The year is 1984. Matthew Holt has been missing for a year, having disappeared after his expulsion from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for endangering the lives of fellow students. Whilst Shiro is eager to forget and move on, new student Pidge Gunderson seems intent on uprooting the past and sticking his nose in other people's business. Allura and Lotor are Quidditch rivals, Keith and Acxa have family issues, Lance needs to get a grip, and Hunk just wants to pass Third Year without too much fuss.

“He’s probably worried I won’t be his friend anymore.”
Coran went quiet for a moment and Lance could tell he was debating something.
“This… isn’t really my place to say this… but he might need to be reminded that you’re his friend. Especially after this.”
Lance blinked, confused. “What?”
“Just… to clear the air a bit.” Coran stirred his tea needlessly. “Set some things straight… Reaffirm the old camaraderie... bond…”
“Coran,” Lance said seriously. “Are you telling me that Keith doesn’t think we’re friends?”
“That’s not what I’m telling you at all,” Coran said and took a sip of his tea. “But I may be very heavily implying it.”
“Oh my gosh.” Lance let his head fall back onto his chair and stared up at the ceiling, trying to comprehend how he’d made it through two years of an apparently one-sided friendship without noticing. “Of course. Only Keith.”

But Lance wasn’t really listening. He was still watching the winning team as they danced in the rain, loud and shiny and victorious, Keith Kogane lifted high on Shiro’s shoulders. He was smiling, and it was a weirdly foreign look on his face, and even though he had never met him before, Lance thought of magnificent desert blooms that spring to life after a monsoon, and how their impermanence is what makes them special and unique.
Storm-dark eyes flashed up to the stands, and Lance freezes in his footsteps.
And then he decided, “I’m gonna play for Gryffindor.” -

Keith didn't really know what to expect when Lance had approached him that day.
Funny, it was also the day where he really met him.
It was surprising really, when the Cuban boy approached him at the tree by the lake. Keith knew he was hated by the Slytherins, if the cold stares and narrowed eyes say anything otherwise. Ever since he got transferred into Hogwarts and got sorted into Gryffindor, he was approached by a lot of people, mostly the Gryffindors. They chattered about Hogwarts and 'what to expect' (their words, not his). Most of the boys and this girl named Ezor told him the so called "basics"; Hufflepuffs are the ones who can sneak food to you in a pinch, Ravenclaws are the ones to help you with homework, and Slytherins are annoying.

Keith gives an exasperated sigh. “Why aren’t you at Quidditch practice? You’re the best player on the team.”
“I quit.”
“What?!” Keith chokes. “That’s insane! Why would you quit, Shiro? You can’t just quit! You’re too good to quit! That- That’s a waste!”
That got Shiro’s attention. He closed his book, standing up to face Keith.
“That’s rich- you’re the best flyer in the school and you never even tried out!” he snaps.
“Don't make this about me. Go back down there and tell them you made a mistake!”

Lance lets out a breath. “Phew! For a second I thought you were going to call me a liar! Then it’d be a big thing because you know how upset Hunk gets when we’re arguing and-”
“You knocked me out of the air, Lance. And we always argue.”
“It was an accident! I didn’t mean to turn that hard. Besides, Pidge caught you with her weird floaty spell, so you hardly even got hurt! And we only argue because you’re prickly and stubborn-”
“I’m going back to the castle. Go bother your friends.” Keith says dryly, turning to head back up the stone steps.
“We’re supposed to be friends too, you know!” Lance calls after him. Keith doesn’t bother replying. It was one battle after another with Lance.Or moody, Gryffindor Keith might like the company of Lance McClain more than he should.
