Every word out of Grandfather and Rikiishi's mouths lately was about Yabuki Joe. Yabuki this and Yabuki that. How brilliant Yabuki was, what a great man he was, how he was a true boxer worth fighting with all one's might, how it was a real crying shame he didn't want to join Shiraki Gym.
They were all addicted to Yabuki. It was like a contagious illness, a syndrome affecting everyone in the gym for whatever reason. It was sort of disturbing, if Yoko were to give her candid thoughts.
She would be totally immune to all this. She swore to herself.
Someone somewhere laughed.
