“So, mullet,” Lance started with a smirk, crossing his arms and leaning back casually, “you free to film the best video ever tomorrow?”
“Um, I don’t think Pidge and I caught Mothman on camera yet, so no, the best video will not be filmed tomorrow,” Keith scoffed good-naturedly.
Lance rolled his eyes in what could almost be fond exasperation as Pidge shouted “hell ya!” from behind. “Whatever, mullet. Just make sure your smart mouth makes it to my apartment tomorrow before eight.”
In which Lance needs a partner, Keith needs a better excuse, and two pining idiots film a challenge video.

Summary
Hunk and Lance have been friends forever, the whole team knows this. Barely a varga passes without one or the other of them breaking into some story about their childhoods, or their time as roommates at the Garrison. References to “The Three Musketeers” are common, even though there are only two of them.
When Pidge discovers poorly hidden bloody flower petals in the trash, it doesn’t take her long to confront her friend and teammate. His terror at the possibility of Lance finding out seems to explain the situation pretty well, but Hunk is refusing the surgery that could save his life AND stubbornly refusing to talk to Lance, insisting it is pointless.
He knows he should have the surgery, but that would mean losing almost all of his childhood memories. Given how advanced his hanahaki is at this point, the surgery has almost no chance of saving him anyway- far better for Lance to think that Hunk succumbed to some alien parasite, since Hunk will die either way. Hunk’s put a lot of thought into this and knows what he wants.
Too bad the Alteans have very different views on Hunk’s right to refuse treatment, and a strong stance on how irreplaceable any of the Paladins are.

An alien ship crashes on Earth and Lance and Hunk are the first responders to board and look for survivors. But they don’t find people in need of help. They find bodies. What started as a rescue turns into a fight for survival and the team can only watch in horror outside of the quarantined ship as two of their own begin to lose the battle. And it begs the question: when it comes to choosing between potentially saving a loved one or for sure saving Earth what is a Defender of the Universe to do?
