It would need to adjust, learn the new rules, learn what its master wanted. But more importantly it would need to learn to be a person.
The terms of surrender had not included the mention of live gifts, but Damien, who leaned into the Dark King motif, was nothing if not pragmatic. This could be used to his advantage especially when the king and negotiator sent were doing nothing but making demands they had no right to make as the losers of the conflict.
No one was prepared for the atrocities committed by the ruling class of the planet. But they would do what they were there to do and provide humanitarian aid.
