That took Winn by surprise “I - ” he started.
“He’s had nothing since I’ve been on shift ma’am so that’s at least 8 hours” Vasquez’s voice interrupted from the desk next to his.
“And knowing his track record it's probably longer,” Demos added as he walked past patting Winn on the shoulder as the other man scowled.
“Please,” Winn scoffed “I’m fine I just-” he stood up as he spoke, a bad idea as it turned out, his vision faded and his limbs suddenly stopped responding.

Kara and Lena have been best friends since they met in college and have grown into adults together and Kara is painfully in love with her best friend while Lena has dated various men and women throughout their entire friendship. And Kara never really minded those relationships because Kara could tell that none of them would really last. None of them were ever good enough for Lena and Kara could see that they would end in failure until one day Lena was gushing over her latest date with someone who she seemed to really, really like. It turned into a significant other until finally one day Lena told Kara about the ring on her finger because she’d said yes after finally finding “the one.”
It was in that moment that Kara realized that she had taken Lena for granted, had taken their friendship for granted and now she had to pay for never finding the courage to tell Lena about her feelings. Kara had never told Lena about her true feelings because she thought she would just have time and keep having more time until the day she realized that she didn’t. Time had run out and Lena was going to walk down the aisle, asking Kara to be her Maid of Honor and Kara was a masochist. She had said yes.

In a world in which soulmates don’t age past 18 until they meet their soulmate, Kara and Lena wait 37 and 11 years, respectively, to meet each other after they turned 18. Kara is 56 to Lena’s 29 when they finally meet, long after most meet their soulmates. Most people wait an average of 5-10 years with most outliers being 15 years to meet their soulmate. A gap so large is completely unheard of, then again, most people are born on the same planet as their soulmates rather than a galaxy apart.
Kara and Lena meet each other and find themselves drawn to each other though they don’t actually touch the first time they meet, nor the second, third, fourth, or fifth time even. After many meetings the first time they do touch, it’s because Kara has saved Lena’s life as Supergirl to complicate matters more they already are and Kara can tell, can see how conflicted Lena is, how hard it is when they finally find out that they are each other’s soulmate. A Super and a Luthor indeed. How can they love each other if Kara has a separate identity Lena knows nothing about and the universe seems to think it is playing the biggest joke in the galaxy by pairing them up as such unlikely soulmates with so many obstacles in their way?
