Long before the mystery of Snaktooth Island, Alegander Jamfoot was just a fresh-out-of-college graduate, slowly regretting his choice to major in library sciences as he struggled to land anything close to a real archivist job. For now, he made ends meet working as a barista in a small, slightly-forgotten café nestled in a quiet little town—pouring lattes with theatrical flair and delivering every order like it belonged on stage. Life was slow, repetitive, and flavored mostly with disappointment… until *they* walked in.
“Buddy” was loud, cocky, and completely out of place. A thrill-seeking, adrenaline-chasing cop with dreams of becoming a detective, they took up a side hustle as a local reporter for the floundering GNN station down the street—itching for something, *anything*, worth writing about. But instead of a story, they may have found theirself caught up in something unexpected: a budding, reluctant crush on the café’s hopeless barista.
In a town where nothing big ever happens, maybe something small—like the spark between two mismatched souls—is the beginning of everything.

The Journalist had spent months, practically a year on Snaktooth island, with their only source of food being sauce plant packets, and water. That catches up to them the moment they all get back to the mainland.
(AKA this is me taking that fade to black when the journalist is leaving the beach as their body being like "Oh, cool! We're longer feeling endangered and forced into survival mode. Time to immediately shut down to preserve our nutrition resources so we don't DIE." and making a whole fic out of it.)

Summary
Yu Narukami is the only human in a world of grumpuses and he has no idea what happened to the rest of the Investigation Team. That's demoralizing enough! It's even worse when the place he's in is Snaktooth Island.
Even though he has no proof, Yu has a feeling something awful will happen not too far in the future. Finding out what happened to his friends is important, and returning home is absolutely a priority once he has made sure his friends are alright, but he also isn't the kind of person to ignore incoming disasters, especially if it'll affect all these people he's meeting now. How to face a threat he can't even figure out, especially when he can't use Personas? And even if he manages to do so...
...will he still be able to return home?
Balancing a potential disastrous scenario in the future, the knowledge he's surrounded by a completely different species, and the new maze of relationships he finds himself in is difficult, but Yu Narukami is willing to give it a try.

Buddy is now tasked with the mission of regaining the other explorer's trusts and figuring out exactly what happened not just to Eggabell, but what exactly tore them all apart.

Swap au for these guys yaaay, first time posting on this site so I hope it bodes well. Might write more because the bugsnax brainrot is real and it has taken a hold of me. The story will include some non-canon stuff or interactions but this is already an au sooooo yeah. Most of the characters you'd expect are swapped with one another personality-wise but a couple of traits from one another are swapped too. This will and does contain spoilers for the bugsnax game so be warned as this will go through the DLC and secret ending too as well as the grumpinati taking more of a role with the main cast.
