Seeing a double rainbow. Dropping your toast and having it land safely jam-side-up. Once in a lifetime is one of those hallowed phrases, a magic spell uttered right up there with once upon a time or and they all lived happily ever after or you don't have to come in to work today.
To use that sacred label to describe misfortune, then, almost feels like perverting its purpose, but let it be known: once in a lifetime isn't always a fairytale.
