"I'm the only one that has to die," Viktor spat, a sense of finality set deep in his words, his bones.
"No," Five began, snapping his head towards his brother, "I won't let you do that."
Viktor crossed his arms. "Why not? All that my powers have ever done was cause harm, but this? This will do some good, once and for all."
"But then you die! And we're not even sure if that'll work!" Allison's voice boomed, reverberating off of the walls. Her face was grief-stricken, devoid of any color. She alreday had to watch Claire, her only daughter, get blinked away to another timeline. A timeline where she'll forget all about Allison. "I already lost my daughter, and if I have to lose you too, then I'll be damned sure I go down with you."
A cacophony of buildings collapsing, gunshots blearing, and innocent shrills of the few civilians not absorbed by Ben and Jennifer ripped right through the walls of Luther's abandoned house; resonating in the bodies of the Hargreeves'. Their faces contorted with the noise, coiling up as the sound only grew louder.
The Cleanse was well on its way.

Summary
All Five wanted to do was save his siblings from the Apocalypse. He didn’t realise he’d be saving them from himself.
Or a very canon divergent AU where a thirteen year old Number Five ends up in the apocalypse, and the Temps Commission decides for that reason that he needs to die. Thus begins ten years of hell for Five and pushes him to escape the apocalypse in 2019 with enough time to figure out how the apocalypse begins and stop it before it happens.

It wasn't like they knew that it was going to happen. The briefcase looked fine, Herb was confident that it would work, and Five seemed inclined to believe him, so they'd huddled together and set their course for home. But, maybe using a briefcase that had just been stuck in a supernatural energy wave wasn't their smartest idea.
Then again, it isn't the weirdest thing to happen to them. At least in this universe— dimension, reality?— there were other superheroes left having to save the world. Which meant all they had to do was figure out how to get home. Simple enough, right?
or, the briefcase sends the Hargreeves into the 2015 Marvel Universe because things can't ever go their way. Post Season 02.

In which Vanya Hargreeves, at the young age of fourteen, watches her father mount her brother's portrait on the wall, and decides that enough is enough.
She runs away, searching for- and finding- freedom and understanding amongst some of the other 36. It isn't long before they decide to get vengeance on those who made their lives so terrible. Together, they'll watch the world burn.
In other words, the apocalypse still comes, just a hell of a lot faster.

Allison only realizes that Vanya has never snuck out with them to do “Stress Relief” (as Five had so proudly called it, years ago, holding up some dusty, forgotten Self Care manual) until she invites Vanya back over, the day after the funeral.
“Is this, like, an LA thing?” Vanya asks, voice tinny over the landline.
Allison winces even before she says it, like bracing for an explosion. “No, it’s, uh. Something we used to do. You know, how we’d sneak out sometimes.”
“No, I don’t know,” Vanya said mildly, but Allison can picture the blank, stricken look on her face, the way she’s curling inward on the other side of the phone. Great. Now she has two things to apologize for.
“Well,” Allison soldiers on, and really she deserves an Emmy for the cheer she puts into her voice, “We’re inviting you now! Wear protective clothes, and bring something to hit things with!” And she hangs up.
