1962 rapidly draws to a close. The Cuban Missile Crisis is over. Nuclear war has been averted, but a midnight mistake spawned even bigger problems between the United States and Soviet Union. Both countries must hide the scandal to preserve their lives as they know them.
Then a man is murdered and a dangerous artifact is stolen.

The World Tablet, an artifact that grants wishes by depleting the user’s life force, resurfaces after Soviet hid it away. Britain reaches it first, destroying the Tablet and scattering its pieces all over the world.

1939年2月10日，庇护十一世在《拉特朗条约》签订十周年纪念日的前一天逝世。他在去世以前，曾经留下了一份未完成的演讲《统一的人类》，因为怕其中含有反种族主义言论激怒墨索里尼，时任圣座国务卿帕切利枢机（后来的庇护十二世）封存了所有的讲稿副本和写作材料。直到若望二十三世在位时，这份通谕才被公开。

梗概：梦开始的地方（。
756年5月，丕平南下大败年初围困罗马的伦巴第人，将伦巴第人几年前夺取的拉文纳一带收复，并将它献给了教宗。教宗自此拥有了自己的世俗采邑，往后发展成为教宗国。在西满收到所有城市的钥匙之前，卡卢斯来了一趟罗马，给他带来了一个神秘的小意识体。
此时教廷已经拥有国家的雏形，但教宗国/梵蒂冈的名字均未出现，严格来说，西满的拉丁语国名是“sanctae Dei ecclesiae, reipublicae Romanorum（神圣天主的教会，罗马共和国）”，也可以使用“圣伯多禄共和国”来指代。而年纪尚小的马尔科，其实从诞生之初就一直是代表广义上“意大利地区”的意识体，只是当时大家都没有意识到这一点（真正意识到至少得等到拿破仑时代了）。
