Summary
When the father of the 118 is lost to the viral infection that almost took Chimney, the 118 is stranded. Buck disappeared off the face of the Earth, unable to face reality after his pseudo father left him. Eddie tries to corral him back into his regular life, while also putting the pieces of his own life back together. It’s not an easy task, though, when Buck starts to adopt Bobby’s old tendencies.

Summary
“—It’s fine, Eddie, really. I’ve been meaning to set something up in here anyway for if you guys came to visit, so. It worked out.”
Eddie can’t stop gaping, mouth flopping a little bit like a goldfish. Buck, all seventy miles of him, is fluttering about Chris’ old room—the guest room—propping several large IKEA boxes against different walls. Eddie says faintly, “I was just gonna grab a nice air mattress.”
Buck looks at him, incredulous. “No,” he says slowly, “you guys are going to be comfortable while you’re staying here. Even if it’s only for a little while.”
~
Or: Buck buys Chris a bedroom set. Eddie asks him out to dinner about it.

Summary
After Bobby’s death, Buck tried his best to look after everyone. Only, it didn’t seem like they needed him to do that. Instead, he struggled with the others avoiding him, Eddie making him feel out of place, and the 118 still not having proper leadership.
Buck just needed someone to talk to. To help him move forward. He was happy that that person ended up being Tommy.

Summary
The last thing Tommy ever expected was to see his father in Eddie Diaz.
He thought Eddie was a good man. He loved his kid, showed up for Chris in a way Thomas Sr never would have dreamed of for his own. Eddie never hit him, never cursed at him, even with his disability, Diaz never took it out on Chris.
But this…
Tommy moves before he can even think about it.

Coda for 8.17. Not Eddie bashing but not Eddie friendly either. -

Buck and Ravi get trapped while trying to escort a victim out of the ruins of a building. Similarly, Athena and Chimney find themselves with no way out. When Eddie sees the one-eighteen on the news, he rushes to the scene.

Summary

Summary
The man across from them rolled his eyes before he realized that Buck was sitting there. He leaned forward, his head tilted curiously to the side as his dark blue eyes captured Buck’s attention. He was ruggedly handsome with a chiseled stubbled jaw and sun kissed skin from long days in the desert sun. His hair was fluffy with a dusty sort of tint to the brown that reminded him of his old books. Buck wanted to run his hands through the curls.
“Who’s this?” The man asked with a smirk that seemed to make his deep blue eyes sparkle.
“This is Bu—”
“Evan!” He cut off Eddie. “E-Evan Buckley. It’s, uh, nice to meet you.” He said throwing his hand forward. “Eddie said you were a friend of his?”
The man seemed amused and took ahold of Buck’s hand. “Something like that,” he said, his smirk softening into a real smile. “Nice to meet you, Evan. Tommy Kinard, at your service.”

Summary
He could only stare numbly at his best friend as he laid dying in the street, his forbidden blood pooling around him like spilled ink on paper.
He could taste it in his mouth. A deep syrupy flavour, not what he thought it would be like. When he was warned against tainted blood, no one ever said how good it might taste. Even in his shocked state, Buck wanted another taste, another mouthful of the poisoned chalice.

Summary
“E-Eddie,” Buck’s voice was quiet and wrecked. “He’s gone.”
Eddie’s heart dropped like a stone.
“Who, Buck?” It was barely a whisper, the words catching in his throat. Deep down he already knew. He could feel it in his bones.
“Cap, he-” Buck sobbed. “Fuck, Eddie. Cap. He’s dead.”

Summary
Tommy was breathing heavily, his chest heaving as he grabbed onto his radio. “Firefighter Buckley, please respond… E- Evan, do you copy?”
This couldn’t be happening. Not now. Not right after-
No.
He couldn’t think about Bobby right now. Couldn’t think about the funeral, the way Evan closed himself off, the way he fell apart a few days later when Tommy stopped trying to call and knocked on his door instead.
He couldn’t think about the way he held Evan, the way they fell asleep curled around each other. The way they had only left each other’s side to work. They hadn’t talked about it, not really, but every night was spent together. Tommy had a side of the dresser, a section of the closet, half of the medicine cabinet. He made them breakfast, and Buck made dinner, and they were… they were figuring it out.
