Excellent slow-build story of Miraak's time in Apocrypha. The pace at the start is very sedate, which fits with the descriptions of Hermaeus Mora's realm and then builds to the heart-wrenching climax. Also an excellent example of using in-game clues and texts to build a compelling narrative around several interacting NPCs.

Short bit of apocrypha I first read on r/teslore and stuck with me. I'm so glad I found this on AO3, so I don't have to rely on my external bookmark to Reddit. I cannot say anything about it or put any warnings on it or in the tags for fear of spoiling the twist, but just be aware it goes to a very, very dark place. Like many commenters, I started reading it thinking the author did not know anything about social dynamics and mores of Tamriel, and was erroneously mapping our own world's hangups onto the world of The Elder Scrolls in order to write an issue fic. Then the last line hit me like a giant's club after having been caught stealing cheese.
As much fun as Sanguine is to write and read, this fic is an excellent exploration of just why his sphere actually doesn't overlap with Dibella's or Mara's spheres at all.
