Summary
Summer is sweltering this year. Wu had said something about it being especially harsh this year, for some reason. It was hot through the winter, and hotter still as summer drags on.
And drag it does.
To Kai, every day feels like several as he tries and fails to keep himself cool. His temperature runs hotter than normal anyway, and the sun is only making it worse. The others whinge and complain, but it isn’t crippling for them like it is for Kai. He has a near constant headache, he guzzles water at almost all times, and is dizzy whenever he moves even remotely quickly.

Kai’s little sister has been taken. Kai’s little sister has been taken. And now this old guy he doesn’t even know is telling him the only way to get her back is to complete this weird ninja training course before he drinks his tea. So they can go beat up the skeletons and save the world from the lord of the underworld. Like that makes any sense. Like any of this makes any fucking sense.
But Kai will do it. For Nya. He won’t eat, won’t sleep, won’t stop worrying himself sick and working himself to the bone until she’s happy and healthy and safe. After all, he’s been doing just that for as long as he can remember. Why should some raised stakes change anything?-
Wu watches as Kai tries to complete the training course and nearly kills himself in the process.
