He waits for a pause in Lianfang-zun’s diatribe and inclines his head to Brother. Tilts it the merest amount in the young man’s direction.
“Young Master Mo Xuanyu,” Brother murmurs. Then a frown passes over his face, slight enough that only Wangji would mark it. “One of Sect Leader Jin’s illegitimate sons. He’s been brought here as one of the LanlingJin disciples.” His tone holds a note of disapproval, souring the normally placid timbre of his voice.
Young Master Mo lifts his head from his morose contemplation of his empty cup, and locks eyes with Wangji. Wangji immediately begins to turn away when Young Master Mo’s face breaks out in wide grin and—Wangji’s heart stops.
He knows it’s not Wei Ying. There isn’t really a true resemblance. But there’s something about that smile, so open and easy and carefree—it’s his smile. -
