There’s another pause, Bruce’s hesitation obvious, the tension palpable in the cold Gotham night.
“Why’re you actually up here?”
His question is met with a humorless laugh,
“Wasn’t gonna jump, ‘f that’s the question you’ve been dancing around, Caped Crusader.”Ed’s cadence switches, though, and there’s an air of urgency in it, “I’m everything, I’m nothing. I can make you tremble in fear or make your sadness disappear,” he hiccups, “I've been with you since you've arrived and I will be with you at the moment you die. I know you, but you create me. What am I?”
Bruce answers quickly,
“You’re a thought. You were thinking about it.”
It’s not a question. Bruce already knows the answer. A long silence on Edward's end confirms the suspicion he already had. -
