Summary
Hawkeye holds his breath. It’s a futile effort; Trapper’s nearness is just as powerful an aphrodisiac as the lingering smell of the anonymous nurse. He exhales shakily and tries for an arch lift of his brows to mask what he’s sure must be terror writ across the rest of his face. “I never said I wasn’t interested. But you’d better be a damn good storyteller.”
Trapper comes back from a nighttime assignation and offers to share the highlights with Hawkeye. Things quickly devolve from there.

It was simple, Shorty explained, when Johnny screwed up the courage to ask on behalf of the four clueless sophomores in the varsity boat: Joyce had a number of single friends, and by some secret ritual each of those friends was assigned a rower to ask to the dance. Before he was drafted, BJ Hunnicutt was a little more familiar with asking people to slow down rather than giving them full control over his body, his decisions. He has no idea what kind of magic spell Hawk cast on him the second he stepped off a plane at Kimpo, but every move he's made since then has been following in Hawkeye Pierce's footsteps. He doesn't even think to question where they're going. In complete silence, he lets Hawk guide him, allows Sidney to follow.

BJ didn't ask to become the watchdog that lets Hawkeye and Sidney carry on their tryst right under everybody's noses at the 4077th, but a night in Seoul is about to make things far more complicated for one happily married man.

Suddenly he felt panicked and crazy. Dreams weren’t like this. Dreams didn’t rake the hot coals of the past so aggressively. Nostalgia, fantasy, booze tinted glasses were one thing, but this was another.
“It feels so real, Hawk,” BJ mumbled.
“BJ?” Hawkeye said. BJ could see him lift his head. His hair stood up, making a funny shadow on the wall. “Did you say something? Are you dreaming?”
“I can’t tell. This feels just like the day we met,” BJ said.
“The day we—oh,” Hawkeye’s voice got thin and vulnerable. “Oh, BJ, it’s all going to be okay. Trust me. You know me, don’t you? You know I wouldn’t lie?”
(BJ and Hawkeye get stuck in a time loop.)

BJ doesn't really know when he knows: he just realizes it one day while smiling across the Swamp at Hawkeye and the damn thought takes him by surprise so thoroughly that he chokes on his gin and has to deal with Hawkeye's jibes for the next week. But he knows; he knows.
