It was like time paused for dramatic effect. There, centre frame, stood a man in full tuxedo: black tie, crisp shirt, dishevelled hair, and the sort of jawline casting directors would kill for. Jayce blinked. The man blinked back.
Then, without a word, he walked around the front of the car, opened the passenger door, and got in.Jayce gaped. “Um. Hello?”
The man looked straight ahead. “Drive.”

If Viktor could get his construct to laugh, he would probably be laughing now, the miserable kind that might bring with itself tears. But he doesn’t remember how to do any of that.
