Buck wishes he could stuff it all down so no one can see and be cool and competent, and then explode alone so no one else knows. But he’s Buck, he jumps out of trees and crashes motorcycles and screams I’m hurt, look at me, love me, and he doesn’t know how to do anything else.
“Are you and Dad fighting?”
Fuck, he hadn’t realized that Chris could hear them. Buck looks at Chris. A couple years ago, he could’ve said no, bud, just grown-up stuff, but he won’t do that to Chris. “No,” he says. When Chris’s face starts to close off because he thinks Buck is lying, Buck adds, “I think I’m being an asshole and I have no idea how to stop.”
