Summary
Daemon understood the cost of war. He was no stranger to battle and death seemed to haunt the Targaryens wherever they went.
He was not lying to Laena when he said the Targaryens belonged nowhere; with the Doom of Valyria, there was no true home for the dragonriders with dreams of the future and fire in their veins.
But this level of loss was unprecedented.
Rhaenyra’s passing, the storming of the dragon pit, the disrespect his beautiful daughters Rhaena and Baela suffered, the passing of Rhaenyra’s sons, the loss of dragons as a whole incited an insurmountable amount of fury and grief within Daemon.
His death meant little to him, but the end of Targaryen dragons was too much for him.
And to think it would take another 172 years for dragons to be born again to the lonely little Targaryen girl doomed to follow the harrowed footsteps of her forefathers broke Daemon’s heart.
All this loss, all this calamity, the collapse of the Targaryen dynasty at the hands of Hightowers; Daemon simply couldn’t allow this to happen.
