Bernadetta treasures her solitude, which is why she lives so far from all her friends in town, way out in the mountains where the only other thing for miles is a run-down old house that's been for sale since long before Bernadetta moved out here. When someone buys that house and threatens her quiet, solitary life, she isn't sure how to feel at first; not until she meets Dimitri, who seems to value being alone as much as she does - seems to, at least, so long as she doesn't look too closely.

It was a good plan, a solid plan - Dimitri is eager to help, Sylvain is always ready to show off, Bernadetta needs a little inspiration. It's the perfect set of circumstances for getting Sylvain and Dimitri in bed together, and Bernie is sure once they cross that line they'll have to stop dancing around each other, lovesick and over-cautious. Every variable is accounted for.

“Finishing a contract. Right.” Illario’s tone remains even, but there is a bitterness which undercuts it. “Promise me you’ll turn her down. I wouldn’t make you do this anymore. You know that, Lucanis. You wouldn’t have to kill, if I were to take Caterina’s place.”
It’s a nice thought but a foreign one. In a way, he is a blade honed — first by his grandmother’s hands, and then later by the rest of the Crows. What would he do if not this? What life would he have when what remains of his family is here, and yet… if he does nothing he risks losing it all the same.
Still, his tongue presses to the back of his teeth, and his throat tightens, unable to give Illario an answer.
“And, you’re evasive. Again.” Illario laughs to himself — bitter, vile, and a bit exhausted. “I should have expected less. Of course, you’d listen to any order given to you. What about mine, then?”
Illario pauses. His eyes darken, and there is a shift in the air between them.
“Lucanis, would you obey me?”

His words cut cold, but it seems to have little effect.
“It has been some time.” Years — Illario wants to answer. Somewhere before the double hit of puberty and his budding one sided rivalry with Lucanis for Caterina’s approval. “I —“
Lucanis’ mouth shuts tight. Illario cannot make out his expression, but what he can grasp from the man before him is the overwhelming stench of blood. It clings — sticky, salty — in the air. Illario thinks that were he to reach out, his hand would come back wet with it.
A kill. Fresh. Lucanis has completed a contract, and what is his first stop? None other than Illario’s very own bed chambers. Bad night, and it's about to get worse.
Fuck.
“I was hoping you would allow me this. I have… I have had a long night, cousin.”
Double fuck.
