Summary
“I did not ask for this. I was merely —”
“Finishing a contract. Right.” Illario’s tone remains even, but there is a bitterness which undercuts it. “Promise me you’ll turn her down. I wouldn’t make you do this anymore. You know that, Lucanis. You wouldn’t have to kill, if I were to take Caterina’s place.”
It’s a nice thought but a foreign one. In a way, he is a blade honed — first by his grandmother’s hands, and then later by the rest of the Crows. What would he do if not this? What life would he have when what remains of his family is here, and yet… if he does nothing he risks losing it all the same.
Still, his tongue presses to the back of his teeth, and his throat tightens, unable to give Illario an answer.
“And, you’re evasive. Again.” Illario laughs to himself — bitter, vile, and a bit exhausted. “I should have expected less. Of course, you’d listen to any order given to you. What about mine, then?”
Illario pauses. His eyes darken, and there is a shift in the air between them.
“Lucanis, would you obey me?”

Summary
”Were you gonna watch me sleep? You are aware we are not children anymore. Right, Lucanis?”
His words cut cold, but it seems to have little effect.
“It has been some time.” Years — Illario wants to answer. Somewhere before the double hit of puberty and his budding one sided rivalry with Lucanis for Caterina’s approval. “I —“
Lucanis’ mouth shuts tight. Illario cannot make out his expression, but what he can grasp from the man before him is the overwhelming stench of blood. It clings — sticky, salty — in the air. Illario thinks that were he to reach out, his hand would come back wet with it.
A kill. Fresh. Lucanis has completed a contract, and what is his first stop? None other than Illario’s very own bed chambers. Bad night, and it's about to get worse.
Fuck.
“I was hoping you would allow me this. I have… I have had a long night, cousin.”
Double fuck.

Summary
Lucanis has leaned back, hands bracing his weight against Davrin’s thighs and he must have found a good angle because his heavy exhales are gone, replaced by breathy groans that sometimes get stuck in the back of his throat when Davrin’s cock drags against his prostate just right.
“Lucanis,” Davrin wheezes out.
Messing around with other Wardens had never been like this.
With their differences set aside, Davrin and Lucanis take a quiet afternoon to themselves.

“What… What could possibly… be the matter..?” Lucanis panted hoarsely, head spinning as he clung weakly to Spite’s shoulders, trembling in the demon’s lap, “What do… you need?”
“Inside.” Spite hissed through gritted teeth, “Want. Inside. Closer. Closer-“ He rubbed his head against Lucanis like a spiteful cat, as if resenting the flesh and bone that prevented him from crawling inside his host and melding with his very essence.

Summary
Death, Emmrich tells him, is his greatest fear. But there’s an elegance in it. A beauty that cannot be duplicated by anything else, save for the soundness of sleep. The closest to death they can ever come without straying into true danger. The stillness, the heaviness, of deep, dreamless sleep is like a little death, but a different one than the first he’d shared with Lucanis.

Summary
Illario was running. He had been trying to come up with a new plan, but without much success. With Lucanis taking his place as First Talon, Illario understood that he no longer had a place among the Crows. Worse yet, his life was in more danger than ever. After what had happened with the Venatori —whether or not it had been his idea— Lucanis and Rook had humiliated him in front of all the houses. Worse still, Lucanis had spared his life, which meant he wasn’t just a traitor, but his brother’s weakness. The damned First Talon’s weakness. They would come for him, just like they had for Caterina’s children. And Illario wasn’t about to let that happen. The problem: no one left the Crows. Not alive. And certainly not House De Riva.

Summary
“The more you do that,” says Davrin, dryly, “the easier it is to dislocate. You know that right?”
“That’s an ‘old Rook’ problem,” says Rook, grinning up at him.
The joke is, of course, that there will never be an ‘old Rook’. As there will never be an ‘old Davrin’. There is, of course, only here and now and whatever’s necessary to make the most of it. So, in that spirit, Rook grabs Davrin at the waist, sets one foot flat against the ground, then bucks their hips to mount-break and reverse their positions.
AKA: Davrin and a very restless Grey Warden Rook do some Warden-approved fraternization to make the nightmares settle down. It's casual. Totally.
