Jaime's dead. It's hard to deny it when he's staring down at his own body. He's dead, and for some reason, Bart's the only one who can see him, and he's acting extremely weird about it. He's acting weird in general, actually, a lot more distant than he used to be, all sorts of strange habits he never noticed when they were just hanging out for a few hours at a time, the way he can just flip into the Bart he knows in the span of seconds. There's something very strange going on here, and he's determined to figure it out. It's not like he has anything better to do, after all.

Danny died in the portal. And so did his dæmon. It doesn't matter that the portal shocked him back into only kinda dead instead of all the way dead. It doesn't matter that he breathes, that he has a heartbeat. What matters is that Danny Fenton died, really and truly died. What matters is that dæmons cannot cross that final shore.

There is any number of qualifications & attachments & technalities to the statement, but they've lost. There is a riniging in Karkat's ears that refuses to subside, that started when they learned humans weren't affected by psionics. That creeped higher and louder when they saw the powers the humans had. That just about crushed all sound under it as they somehow took the Alternian base. They'd fucking lost.
