Being rejected by the same guy (who it should be mentioned you knew longer than the other women he chose over you) twice is pretty humiliating. Though no one could predict what followed.
Falling for an alien with puppy dog eyes was not on her to-do list...
Oh, and the world was attacked by aliens who killed most of the population and everyone is in a war for the survival of the planet and humanity...yeah. Things are pretty fucked up.
Or where Rosaline Irving is rejected twice by Hal Mason despite being there for all of his ups and downs as he chooses between two sarcastic (one is a psychotic traitor who sold her ass for the Espheni) gun-slinging blondes and is followed behind by sweet Lourdes Delgado.
Rosaline was heartbroken, alone. Rosaline was bitter, Rosaline was angry. “Fuck Hal Mason, I hope the Espheni shove a probe up his ass!” the young woman said calmly.

Josephine “JoJo” Campbell had been once a normal teenage girl, but that was in the past now, buried in a memory so distant it might as well have been a dream. Now she was just trying to survive day by day after the world went to hell thanks to their new neighbors a race of overlord aliens called the Espheni. People had joked for decades about what would humanity do if one day the little green men decided to finally show up looking for a fight. And humans ofcourse always answered with “We will give them hell ofcourse!” just like in Independence day....
One day they had come, entering the atmosphere with their massive ships, scaring the population enough to cause nation wide panic, hysteria and madness had soon followed, those smart enough had prepared, hunkering down on their homes with food and toilet paper. The other side, those god fearing, had given themselves to the will of the lord.
It had not mattered in the end. They where all dead now.

Evelyn Carter was just like any other 25-year-old woman of the 21st century (who was already thoroughly disillusioned with the modern dating pool) and had a huge streak of passion for period romances and dramatic displays of love that would send any modern prospect laughing in her face if she suggested they go for a walk instead of an afternoon of Netflix and chill. Ever since her last failed relationship with the son of a friend of her late mother's that had been suggested as a good candidate, (everything had been going perfect) only to find out a couple of months later into the relationship that he had been cheating on her with the barista at the Starbucks a few blocks away.
Evelyn had resigned herself with her lack of future happyly ever after, she would die alone. There was no longer loyalty, no romance, no love at first sight, everything was carnal and false.... Or so she thought until one rainy afternoon her life is changed forever.
