There's a whole tidal wave of emotions threatening to pull Saccharina out to sea to drown. She swallows them all down, forces a shaky smile onto her face. "It's nice to meet you as well," she says politely. "I would say I've heard much about you, but I fear that might be an exaggeration."
"Ruby doesn't talk about me much, I would imagine," Jet nods sagely. "Has she at least told you about my ideas? You gotta ask her about my ideas, I had so many of them!"
Saccharina thinks about the last time she had tried to ask Ruby about something Jet related, and the anger that had flashed across Ruby's face. Nowadays, Ruby is better at swallowing that anger down and being kind instead, but she's not nearly as good as hiding it as she might think she is and Saccharina knows, she knows their relationship is nowhere near the levels she once dreamed it to be. "I will try," she says quietly. "Your twin is very hard to approach sometimes."

Summary
Jake's hug abruptly begins to feel suffocating, and she steps back from him, ignoring the unpleasant sensation of feeling exposed and unprotected. All that she wants to focus on is the thought of a bottle against her lips and some bitter alcohol to ease her sorrows.
"So what happened? Did they shoot at you? Were you in the thick of it?" The questions come too fast for her too process; the smell of gunpowder, blood, shouts of panic and pain are all that comes to mind instead of words.
