Summary
But Ghost didn’t seem to mind, quietly filling the kettle before setting it to boil, those dark eyes watching as John paced the kitchen, one arm flailing about in the air, the other locked tight around his half-melted pint of rocky road.
He told Ghost he was stressed. That the entire MacTavish clan was coming into town, which meant awkward hugs, judgmental stares, and nosy questions from people he hadn’t seen in years. John could handle all of that, he really could.
But what he couldn’t handle was the questions. Why he hadn’t settled down yet, why he didn’t have a nice Scottish girl on his arm.
Why he wasn’t married with a child on the way, because Ethel and James weren’t getting younger, and John was already too old. For fuck’s sake.
“Maybe I don’t want to bring home a wee lass,” John had snapped, voice cracking as he dug his spoon in harder than necessary, a brown, congealed clump of freezer-burned rocky road flying onto the floor. “Maybe I don’t even like women, has anyone considered that?”
And there, in less than twenty words, John had completely outed himself.

Summary
John “Soap” MacTavish is frozen under the weight of a singular glowing golden eye. Its vertical pupil dilates and contracts and Soap swears he can feel the physical weight of a touch skimming over his body as it trails up and down him, assessing. The touch feels as if a singular sharp claw is being dragged over his skin, holding him in place with the silent threat of evisceration should he so much as breathe.
So he doesn’t breathe, he doesn’t move, he can’t even bring himself to look away from that eye as he’s studied; as his fate is decided by the sleek, inky black creature standing just a few feet in front of him.
Soap’s skin feels as if it’s burning under the weight of that stare, but he’s finally able to take a breath in. He lets it out through his nose slowly, quietly, and is careful not to move as he tries to convince his body he isn’t in danger.
But he isn’t convinced. . . isn’t even close, and as he’s able to finally tear his gaze away from the one eye that he can see, he becomes almost sure that he is in danger.

Summary
Nana MacTavish raised all her grandchildren on folktales, regaling John and his sisters with stories of kelpies, wulvers, the bean nighe, and Nessie herself. But John's favorites were about selkies. He's so enamored with the tales that he sees proof of them everywhere. Like the way Ghost is always more at ease near the sea, or how he has a fur coat he keeps in a locked chest. Of course, John knows it's all in his imagination- or is it?

Summary
“Let’s call him Soap,” suggested one voice from the back of the group. I met eyes with him. A sharp icy stare armed his deep gaze, hidden behind a mask made of bones. Human bones? Or did he wear his skeleton on the outside? “Look at him. He’s clean. Young. No scars. Like he’s not seen a day of war—lucky kid, still got all his limbs attached, even. You better buckle up, fresh meat, because it’s going to be nothing but fighting from here on out.”
