He had two weeks’ leave between the Jubilee and his next assignment — prep for the QDG’s role assisting with security for the London Summer Olympics. A bunch of his squadron had already made haste for Amsterdam, Ibiza, Nice. Eddie just wanted to be alone. So Eddie did the only sane thing for a 28-year-old in his position: he copied a set of his sister’s keys, lied to his mother, paid cash for a one-way ticket to Dorset and then on to Lyme Regis, and changed into his glasses and obnoxious tourist clothes. Three hours later, he let himself onto his father’s new yacht, the Endurance. Where, upon opening the door to his stateroom, Eddie was quietly panicked to find a decently tall and criminally young brunette with freckles and feline blue eyes, wearing his father’s bathrobe and pointing a Sig Sauer P229 9mm compact at his centre mass.
