Tommy tries to ignore it, turn his head away from the noise, but he hears a familiar voice reply to the little girl.
He turns around, and he sees a familiar face.
He knows it’s her because he could never seem to forget his mom.
-“We’ll be there in a minute.” Phil interrupts. “Are you safe?”
Tommy nods even though they can’t see him. “Mhm.”
Tommy hears a conversation in the background then a door closing. “Wanna stay on the phone?”
Tommy nods again, then stutters out, “Uh- Yeah.”
They’re really coming to get him.
-Or: Tommy sees his mother for the first time in almost ten years after she left him to be fostered. He freaks out, resorting to painful old thought patterns as his family try to help him the best they can.

The sun is meeting the horizon now, the world slowly falling into night. The already dark sky grows darker, and there are only shadows created by sparse lights in lawns and on porches.
He tucks his face in his backpack, hiding from a new set of bright headlights. He waits for them to pass by too, like all the others. He listens to the car get closer and closer until it’s right in front of his house.
Out of the corners of his vision, he sees the lights land on him.
A car door opens, and Tommy looks up.
“Tommy!”
“Wilbur?”
Or: Tommy is locked out of his house after his mother forgot about him. Wilbur finds out and takes him home, reminding Tommy that he's worth remembering.
