“What does dying feel like?”
Mydei stills. He could tell him of different sensations of death. He could tell him what it feels like when life ebbs out of your veins, and you can only watch it happen. He could tell him how the swift stab of a blade snuffs life out like a wayward candle. He could tell him that the River of Souls is a cold climb, with sweet voices whispering from beyond the shore, beckoning him to join them, relish in their touches yet again, after all the time that has passed.
Mydei gathers Phainon in his arms, burying his head in the Deliverer’s neck. Phainon is limp enough that it might be concerning, so Mydei just holds him tighter.
“You will find no comfort there.”
“No,” Phainon agrees, “such things are long beyond me.”

As the last royal naga remaining in Castrum Kremnos, Mydei was very aware that his people were expecting him to continue the bloodline one day. With such a blood soaked lineage though he wasn't certain it was even worthy of being continued.
When a strange dragon arrives in Castrum Kremnos with a message from the Temple of the Three Fates announcing himself as an offering reaffirming Kephale's love for Nikador however, he starts to think that maybe continuing the royal line wouldn't be so bad after all.

Phainon could not bear returning only to tell his beloved people to sit and wait for their slaughter; to watch as their beautiful village, populated by the golden wheat fields, the shimmering blue ocean, and the most generous and loving of people, was destroyed. As the golden wheat turned to red, the ocean turned grey with pollution, and silence, as those people drew their last breaths, clouded Aedes Elysiae like fog forever.
“Please,” Phainon whispered, a single tear running down his cheek, as his voice broke. “I’ll do anything.”
Aedes Elysiae is at war; on the brink of extinction. As their last hope, the Elysiaens send Phainon to supplicate before the Great Titan of Strife, where something precious must be given to save something precious.
