"Someone get the Viscount some water," Sebastian ordered, for lack of anything better to say. He should've dismissed them all, but he found himself more light headed than he would've liked even as he did all he knew how.
"Not the Viscount," she whispered, quiet enough that even the closest person couldn't overhear.
"What?"
"I said I'm not the bloody Viscount," she snapped. "The situation has...changed."
He remembered being told not to ask for details until she was bleeding less, so he took her hand. "You're here now. Nothing can touch you while you're in my city," he said firmly, more sure of that than he'd been of anything in his life.
She gave him a look that was part helpless fondness and part pity. The blood on her mouth gave her a grotesque look that made his stomach lurch. "You really believe that, don't you?"

Zerith-var felt rooted to the spot, and stayed so still that by the time it occurred to him that he should move—give her rites, decide on how to preserve her body, make plans to contact whoever he could find who knew her and knew her people better than him, make arrangements in case such people didn't exist—his legs were so numb that he was forced back to sit, the smell of blood and miserable cold seeping into his armour as his own heart continued, against all odds, to pump.
An eternity passed as he sat vigil over her, paralysed by indecision—and then she woke up.

Despite his warning, Wyll leaned in very slowly and very gently. Her forehead knocked against the roots of his horns and she felt him take a steadying breath before leaning in further, pressing his lips to hers. Her stomach swooped in whirling delight as he squeezed her against him, his hard lines and ridges of his chest pressing against her. He didn't deepen the kiss, she expected because he was more self-conscious about the forked tongue than he needed to be. He pulled back, watching her from under heavy lidded eyes. "Was that okay?" she asked.
"It was okay," he confirmed, then grinned mischievously. "It was also wonderful, breathtaking, achingly intimate, and like every beautiful dream I've ever had."
She flushed. "Don't oversell."
"I promise you, I exaggerate nothing about the angel whose hair drinks the moonlight, sunken down to this silver-lit beach before me, a lilac vision—"
"Wyll!"
