    Summary

In one world, Rue is killed by the spear of a tribute from district one.

In another, she slips on a shred of the net, and inadvertently saves her own life.

Surviving the Hunger Games is hell. Most of the time, it’s through dumb luck. Rue has no intention of going home, but a final decision made by Katniss decides Rue’s fate for her; and she’s crowned the seventy-fourth victory of the Hunger Games ― the youngest, sweetest victor to date.

Still, a revolution is on the horizon, and she may not have asked for it, but Rue has become the newest chess piece in the biggest game of them all.

    Summary

“Abashed the Devil stood, and felt how awful goodness is, and saw virtue in her shape how lovely: saw, and pined his loss."
    -John Milton, 'Paradise Lost'

In September of 1942, Tom Riddle is a brilliant, bitter schoolboy on the precipice of becoming a monster. Already wearing his first Horcrux around his finger, he doesn’t plan to let anything halt his ascent towards realizing his ultimate goal: becoming the greatest Dark Lord the world has ever seen.

But when a powerful and mysterious transfer student arrives at Hogwarts, Tom’s initial spark of interest rapidly ignites into an all-consuming obsession, threatening to unravel his carefully laid plans.

When ambition and pride run up against regret and repentance, what will be the outcome? Is there such thing as a soul too mutilated to save?

    Summary

But perhaps, you think, stirring your suddenly stilled feet into action, this is an opportunity. You have spoken many times to your group about the problematic nature of your Alternian counterpart’s methods. Surely, therefore, it behooves you to take the time, not just to attempt to analyze and deconstruct his words in absentia, but to actually call out the source of the toxic rhetoric in person. In fact, you have often mused about what you would say to him, how you would demonstrate to him his misconceptions and contradictorily kyriarchy-reinforcing methodology. You had not anticipated the reality of the situation coming upon you so suddenly, but, you suppose, no time like the present. Especially since he’s spotted you. So you remind yourself that while your own unexamined societally-instilled reactions may raise their metaphorical heads at unfortunate times, it’s important not to let your acknowledgement of them prevent you from educating others on the important issues, and walk towards him.

In Which Kankri Vantas, Social Justice Activist Extraordinaire, engages in dialogue with his other-universe counterpart.

    It's surprisingly productive.

"The adventures he crafted from his soul and his imagination and his ideas... were disliked, compared to the ones they suggested for themselves.

He tried to ignore how much it bothered him.

But Bubble really liked to mention it. All the time, actually."

(Bubble acts as Caine's suppressed thoughts.)
