Summary
Footsteps pad over the wooden floorboards, past his door, and down the stairs before he's even dressed. Techno is always the first one down. The distant aroma of eggs and toast wafts to Tommy's nose and he blanches. He hasn't even eaten in the past two days, but his stomach conveniently ignores that and decides to churn with nausea anyway. He fights the vomit crawling its way out.
This is my first published piece, a re-write of an orphaned work.

Summary
A lot of the time Tommy thought he was more animal than human.
He’d been human once, a long time ago. Human was his first shape he remembered having, all those years ago before he learnt to shift.
There was a freedom that came with shifting that he couldn’t find anywhere else. Even if he wasn’t very good at it yet.
Which led him to where he was now. Sat in the back of a car with some lady driving him somewhere, and with a police officer watching him like a hawk.

Tommy is a shifter whose not been human in a long, long time. Unfortunately he's become slightly stuck in his human form, and for some reason people were a little anxious about a feral child running around the streets, so they're sending him off to a foster home.
A foster home with hybrids. Three of them.
Tommy is escaping as soon as he can.

“Look,” Techno starts. He rolls his chair back and turns it to face his younger brother. “Hanahaki. Flowers in the lungs, right?”
Tommy nods.
“Alright. That sucked. So I got the love removed. Easy as that.”
Tommy curls into himself. “Yeah. Easy as that.”

Techno hasn't thought about his hanahaki in years. It was a long time ago, and the surgery had been an easy choice. Techno's just never really cared about it.
His younger brother, Tommy, cares a lot.
