If there is one thing Lin Ling is proud of, it’s his willpower.
Because he sure has it, and it’s overwhelming, impressive, the reason he has gotten to where he is today. Even though he’s overworked, stubborn, and his life is not as perfect as the face of a certain hero whom he doesn’t have a crush on at all.
The thing is, he always thought he would never find anything that would test that conviction he’s so sure of.
Until he found a cat.

“...Your voice,” he said, his tone soft and precise. “I haven’t heard that song sung so well in centuries. Not since the mountain fell into the sea.”
Lin Ling’s mouth opened, then shut again. He tried to speak — What mountain? What sea? Who are you? — but his throat wouldn’t work.
The man stepped closer. Snow crackled beneath his feet but didn’t melt. His presence pulled the room into stillness.
He studied Lin Ling, gaze slow and unblinking.“You sang,” he said, voice soft like snow falling. “And I answered.”
A pause. Then, simply:
“Now tell me… what is your wish?”

His phone buzzed on the kitchen counter, right next to his discarded plate from breakfast. Right! He pushed himself off the couch and headed over, slipping into his seat as he picked it up-
