Summary
Jayce Talis, the beautiful idiot kid with the blown-up lab, he’s playing with forces well beyond his control. Reaching into the unknown. And while it is so undeniably blatantly fucking stupid to keep objects made of raw power in an unsecured place where they could quite literally explode in his face, Viktor almost admires him for it. There’s a conviction to him, a self-assuredness that Viktor assumes one can only acquire through a short lifetime of unconditional love, praise, acceptance, and living in a functioning body.
Jayce doesn’t give up on his dreams even though it could cost him everything. It should’ve cost him everything. Viktor tries not to be bitter about the fact that if it were him in Jayce’s position, he’d be lucky to walk away at all. Tries not to be bitter about how much what amounts to a giant thwack on the wrist and having his toys taken away seems to break Jayce. The first time he’s ever experienced resistance in his life, Viktor figures. But still. He holds onto his passion. He believes in his work. It stirs something in Viktor, deeper than the bitterness.

Summary
The train goes express, and Five's heart drops out of his body. As he falls back onto a plastic seat, he stares blankly at the innards of reality flashing outside the windows. He always has to push. He always has to try, and what the fuck does it get him? Part of him has already given up, already knows the painful truth: once you get lost in time, once you get lost hopping around places and realities you don't belong, you don't get found. He fought for decades to claw himself back to his siblings the first time. He's too old now, too tired to fight like that again.
But he's not alone this time, and he knows Lila will give him hell if he doesn't put on a good show.

Summary
Maybe it's the drugs, the constant paranoia-hangover that beats like an impending heart attack in his chest, the twitching craving need, the pulsing lack that's a presence in itself—maybe Daniel's a pretentious fuck losing his mind, but he thinks he's being followed. San Francisco's not that big and the fog makes it smaller, could be a coincidence, could be nothing at all, but he keeps seeing the same guy. At least once every few days, he figures, not that time is especially linear or coherent for him. He marks days with tally marks in a notebook some days, on his skin when he forgets, so he almost knows how long he's been lost here in the grey damp of the Bay, how long it's been since he met a fucking vampire. The only guy who's ever wanted to take Daniel home just to talk—did they just talk?—and then tried to kill him. At least it made an impression. Maybe he'd have more memories if more guys were into trying to kill him instead of the bog-standard bullshit.

Summary
The moment Daniel tasted Armand's blood, he knew he was fucked, even through the familiar haze of near-death. It was sweet in a way he couldn't possibly have expected, thick like honey, hitting like black tar in his veins. Aged to a fine wine in a fleshy cask. His thoughts all scattered and reformed again, but the taste still lingered. If Louis's story was to be believed—a big if, at points—unimaginable pain was coming soon, but all Daniel could think of was Armand's veins, tearing them open with his teeth and sucking out every drop.
