    Summary

Now with a body of his own, John finds himself dwelling on certain thoughts that he once avoided. In particular: the nature of the act of consuming. The mortal need for sustenance. Some of the things they’ve had to do to survive… and his own, newly-made corporeal form, that has gone so perfectly untouched by them all.

In the end, he comes to one very simple conclusion. He wants visible proof of everything he's survived, and he wants to give something back to his friend. There's one easy way for him to have both.

    “What’s this?”

“Makeup,” John says, taking the brush back from Oscar and setting it on the other side of the sink. He can’t help feeling defensive over it, even though he knows he shouldn’t be.

“Oh,” Oscar says softly, just a moment too late. “Why?”

    --

John and Oscar have always struggled to get along.

Gerry felt it the moment he stepped through the heavy doors and into the church. The slightest pull of something at the back of his mind, something he could still not name or describe. It.

    Summary

He had never been one to play with fire, to watch flames eat up paper or wood or cloth. He could see the appeal. He could appreciate the exciting heat and anticipation—wondering how long it would take to build, wondering how high the flames could climb.

Stan was too cautious, too well aware that he of all people would end up getting burned—too aware of the fact that no matter how hot the fire, no matter how high it climbed, it would leave nothing but ashes in its wake.

Which was why, when Richie’s next kiss was pressed to his cheek, it was chased by a tear.
