“I am drunk,” Rumi repeats with a tipsy nod of the head. She’s staring right at Mira. Somehow, her eyesight doesn’t look so cloudy this time. “M’drunk, and I miss you, Mira. I miss… you. I wa—I want… want you back.”
Or, on their first anniversary together, Rumi and Mira get love drunk; on the first anniversary of their breakup, Rumi shows up at her door, drunk.

Summary
Zoey is trying, Rumi knows—actively trying to pretend that nothing is different while overaccommodating for the fact her patterns exist. And Rumi is… grateful for that effort, somewhat. Even if it’s a little alienating, the way conversation will sometimes stop as if Zoey isn’t sure she should say it outloud.
But, on the flip side, Mira watches her and avoids her touch. Contemplates for long periods of time, staring at her patterns—the thing that Rumi has been hiding for so long.
They’ve all noticed the difference, the shift in their trio’s dynamics, and it makes Rumi’s skin crawl.

Summary
Bobby held up a picture of Zoey and Mira, rarely candid as they allowed themselves to be in public. Rumi could even recognise the bench they were sitting on. Zoey was showing Mira something on her phone—probably one of her weird cat memes—and Mira had her head thrown back, her mouth open in that unflattering laugh she only let out when she was truly amused. Bobby swiped through to another photo, and Mira was still laughing. But Zoey had stopped looking at her phone screen, and was instead gazing at Mira with a soft smile on her face, expression completely besotted.
Something about the sight made a lump gather at the back of Rumi's throat.
When a photo of Zoey and Mira goes viral and the idea of them as a couple becomes more popular than ever, Bobby suggests they fake-date to keep Huntrix ratings up. Rumi doesn't expect to have as many emotions about it as she does.

Zoey flattened her palm to Mira’s face, then trailed her fingers along her jawline, just as she’d replayed Mira doing to her in her head countless times before. It was sharper than her own, the bone and muscle solid beneath her fingers, but her cheek was soft and warm.
She didn’t feel at all like a prince. There was everything to lose.
