Summary
It's very hard for people to overcome first impressions. Not impossible, but difficult. When the first impression isn't the one you expected it to be, sometimes the false impression overwrites - but when the first impression is too blunt, too bold, too brutal to ignore? Well, that changes how you think of something. Or, in this case, someone.
Alternatively, my take on how Trolls: Band Together might have gone differently with a few tripped triggers and a Poppy more aware of just how badly Branch had been wronged, because she always did just want him to be happy.

Duke wasn't close to his extended family.
Not for a lack of desire, no, but more so because of distance. It was hard to visit his cousins' house when they lived halfway across the country. With his parents institutionalized, Duke assumed that he'd lose contact with most of his extended family. After all, his mom had been in charge of keeping up with the cousins. He doubted they even knew his phone number.
Imagine his surprise when he gets a call from his cousin, one Tucker Foley, asking for help.

Summary
When faced with a kid, muzzled and left alone in a supposedly abandoned government facility, Jason learns what it is to be a unwitting father of a traumatized child.
Though he is unprepared for what this kid will bring to his life, from unlocking a whole treasury of government malpractice with an entirely new species, to being a family that Jason never wants to lose, he'll make damn sure that kid is taken care of.
What he doesn't know can't hurt him as he makes the decision to not leave the Lazarus eyed kid to die alone. Jason didn't intend on getting a kid out of the whole ordeal, but unlike Bruce, he is ready to kill to keep him safe.

Summary
Danny Fenton and Danny Phantom are not actually the same person. Nobody really knew that until a terrible incident with his mad scientist parents forces the revelation. Danny rescued Phantom and now he must find allies outside of Amity to stop an interdimensional war before it can begin. Finding these allies however will mean Phantom must confront the life he lost, the people he never got the chance to meet, and the people he never would have wanted to meet again. But he would do anything for love, even this.
